It's amazing what a little simple communication with a youngster can accomplish after some time... I've been signing to William while feeding him, words like more, finished, cereal, banana, eat, bread, drink, milk. Last week he signed more when I signed finished.

He was so proud and excited that I knew what he "said" and I was too! It was such a great moment! He even repeated the sign about 15 minutes later when De came home!
And he's signed more since, and is excited for more cereal when it's given to him, so I know he's truly learned that sign.
